This week we’re going to talk about Soul Mate or Twin Soul crystals. Let me start with the caveat that just as there are differing opinions on the description of a human soul mate/twin soul, there is also a lot of controversy about what constitutes a Soul Mate or Twin Soul crystal. These twinned crystals are sometimes also referred to as Tantric Twins or Twin Flames. My tendency is to keep naming as uncomplicated as possible, so I choose not to use the names Tantric Twin or Twin Flame and simplify it to just “Twin Soul” or even just “Twin”.
As usual, what I am presenting here is my take on the subject of twinned crystals, you may have learned differently, or the people or books from which you learned may have assigned subtle differences and complex rules to the names, or you simply may have a different opinion on the matter entirely for other reasons, and that is perfectly okay! What is important is the energy which these twinned crystals present and your personal relationship to the type of crystal named as such. Again, it is my desire to make learning about the Crystal People as uncomplicated as possible to make this sometimes convoluted topic less burdensome and more accessible to everyone. Back to topic, then!
The crystal names Soul Mate and Twin Soul are often used interchangeably (and sometimes you will see Soul Mate spelled Soulmate). Basically, they are two crystals which are of essentially the same size and are “twinned” or grown side-by-side. This configuration presents in a few different but common ways. Here are the three which I recognize and use for sorting or descriptive purposes:
- Two crystals growing parallel and which look like copies of each other. I would compare this to human identical twins, but add the descriptor of conjoined twins. These would be standing side-by-side, attached from shoulder to foot, both looking in the same direction, like copies of each other.
- Two crystals growing side by side but not on a parallel growth plane. I would compare this to human identical (conjoined) twins which might not be looking in the same direction, and may be attached facing in different directions (for example, with one facing North and the other Northeast).
- Two crystals growing side by side which are of similar size and proportions, but aren’t identical. I would compare this to human fraternal twins. This type may both be facing the same direction, they may be turned slightly or one may be a slightly different size than the other.
We’ll start with the first description. This is the twinned crystal with two crystals which look just alike, which are on the same growth plane. The faces or facets of this type of twinned crystals are exactly parallel to each other. This means they are on the same growth plane. You can tell this by holding them parallel to a light source the same way you view surface features. You will be able to see if each face is on the same growth plane because all six of the facets will shine with the same glare, in sets of two. This means the front two will both find the glare at the same angle, then as you turn the crystal, the next set of two faces will catch the glare at the same angle and etc as you turn the crystal. If I were pushed to label this type of crystal, I would call this configuration Twin Soul Mate (others might fit this type into Tantric Twin or Twin Flame). I would place them under this heading because they are twins of each other, both twins of how they look, but also twins in how they stand and mirror one another. Following is a picture of this type of twinned crystal. You see how they look like each other and how they are facing in the same direction (parallel growth planes)?
The second example was of the two crystals growing side by side but not on a parallel growth plane. The human identical (conjoined) twins which might not be looking in the same direction, and may be attached facing in different directions (for example, with one facing North and the other Northeast). I couldn’t find any really good pictures of this type of crystal, but you can get a visual using your index fingers (this works with all the descriptions, by the way. In the #1 description, your index fingers would be placed parallel to each other, super-glued side to side with the fingernails facing the same way.) In this #2 description, you would turn one of your index fingers (either toward or away from) the other finger, and the tips may be at the same level, or you may move one finger to be slightly taller than the other. Both are index fingers, so they look alike (maybe not identical “twins” of each other, but very very similar), and they aren’t on the same growth plane. Depending on the energy which presents, this type might fit under either heading, Twin Soul or Soul Mate.
The third type of twinned crystal was two crystals growing side by side which are of similar size and proportions, but aren’t identical (the human fraternal twins). This type may both be facing the same direction, or they may be turned slightly. (In the finger example, it might be an index finger attached to a ring or middle finger). Below are a few pictures of this type of crystal followed by a description of each.
- ABOVE LEFT: the crystals are basically the same size, but the first is facing forward, and the second, turned and leaning slightly backwards.
- ABOVE CENTER: the crystals are both facing front, but the shape of the faces on each termination is slightly different and one is a little taller than the other.
- ABOVE RIGHT: the two crystals are very different in appearance but their main faces are oriented in basically the same direction.
These three examples are all twinned crystals, and if pressed, I would put them in the “Soul Mate” (not Twin Soul) category (because the crystals aren’t “twins” of each other). However, like I said, I am reticent to attach hard and fast labels/rules to the types, because their energies are what matter more than the names we assign.
Twinned crystals may also present with one crystal a little larger than the other, still, if the energy fits, these can also be classified as Twin Soul or Soul Mate crystals. Here are a few examples of twinned crystals with one crystal slightly smaller than the other which I would still classify as Soul Mate crystals:
Two crystals may also be very closely twinned, and almost merged into one single crystal, yet still be classified as Twin Soul or Soul Mate crystals. Here are few crystals which fit that description:
Twinned crystals may also present as what I call “Hugging”. The picture below is what I call a hugging Soul Mate crystal and this leads me to when a person might choose to work with a twinned crystal.
Soul Mate or Twin Soul crystals (in any of the different configurations) assist you in boosting feelings of togetherness and love. This may present as attaining an appropriate energy for attracting a mate if that is your desire, or simply for helping to promote loving contact and togetherness in a current relationship (between yourself and a mate, friend, your Higher Self, a Spirit Guide or even your Creator). There are many ways the energy of a twinned crystal may assist us, depending on the shape of the particular crystal, how the energy presents and the desire of the person seeking assistance from their twinned crystal friend.
Of course, the most common association people have of twinned crystals (because of the name, Soul Mate or Twin Soul) is that of helping one to find their “Soul Mate” or “One True Love”. While twinned crystals are able to assist us in our search for a mate, you can’t simply put one by your chair at night and expect it to zap your perfect mate to your side by morning. I think the tendency people have with Soul Mate or Twin Soul crystals (as it seems to be with many crystals) is to obtain the specific type, and expect to magically draw the intended characteristic (in this case, their soul mate/one true love) to them without doing the “work”. What I mean by “work”, is the actions taken toward the goal. For example, working to boost your self esteem, programming the crystal which serves to distill your desire into a clear and focused end result and putting oneself in an open and receptive state (both mentally and physically). So, in working with this type of crystal, you may boost your feelings of love (most importantly self love) and your desire for togetherness, and with a properly programmed crystal (to get your desire clear and focused) this crystal can definitely assist toward that end.
