This week we’ll discuss the metaphysical properties of Lightbrary or Cathedral quartz crystals; what they are, how to determine if you have one, and how to work with their unique energy.
The two names (they are used interchangeably) will help you to remember what they look like and also what they do. In “Cathedral” you get a visual reference (what they look like) and in “Lightbrary”, a metaphysical (what they do or how to work with them).
I’ve never had a Lightbrary long enough to work with it, they tend to get adopted out to where they need to go rather quickly.
Descriptively, these crystals are comprised of smaller points, surrounding and merging into a main point. They remind me of a sandcastle. Here are some drawings I did of a Lightbrary or Cathedral crystal and a sandcastle. See how there is one main crystal (like the main spire of the sandcastle) and it is surrounded by smaller points, some of which are merged into the main point? Compare that to how some of the “rooms” of the sandcastle are merged and some are just very close (share a wall).
The surrounding points may not be whole, as in two complete crystals attached side-by-side, (imagine two fingers glued together) but instead are actually merged into the main crystal (imagine two fingers GROWN together, with the same skin surrounding both). Ewwww. My apologies for that visual.
See how the main point in both of the above examples is surrounded by and almost consumed by the merging points?
I haven’t seen a lot of the textbook perfect Lightbraries in the Arkansas crystal points I have adopted out (with the points completely surrounding the main crystal); they are rare. I have seen more of them that are partial (a main point with two or three merged points).
Keep in mind, there are merged points that are not necessarily Lightbraries. There is a different energy to the main or central crystal of Lightbraries. The two crystals below at first glance may seem like Cathedral crystals, because they both consist of a large point surrounded by smaller points. They are actually crystals with a cluster at the base. The smaller crystals, while they are smaller and do surround a main point, don’t merge or feel like they are one with the main point.
Below is another example of crystals which at first glance might seem to fit the description of a Cathedral or Lightbrary but are actually what I call point/clusters (a combination of a point and a cluster). They don’t have one main point to which the other crystals surround and merge as Lightbrary crystals do.
Cathedral or Lightbrary crystals aren’t always large. Here is an example of two very small ones (look at my fingers in the photos). See how these crystals are merged into each other?
Sometimes a crystal isn’t a Cathedral or Lightbrary by textbook definition but has the energy of one. These three crystals are examples of that type of crystal. By textbook definition, they don’t fit, but the energy says otherwise.
When would a person choose to work with a Lightbrary crystal?
Metaphysically, Lightbraries are extremely powerful Lightworkers and are full of wisdom. They transmit very high vibration and can be used to raise your vibrational frequency. The smaller points (the points which surround the Main, large point) contain information from the Akashic records. I am told it isn’t so much that the records or information is written WITHIN the crystal, but that the energy contained within the crystal assists the soul in reaching the Hall of Records.
As the name implies, a Lightbrary is like a library made of light. The library being the Akashic records. For those of you new to the idea of the Akashic records, here’s a quote from Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E. website:
“The Akashic Records or “The Book of Life” can be equated to the universe’s super computer system. It is this system that acts as the central storehouse of all information for every individual who has ever lived upon the earth.”
By working with these Cathedral or Lightbrary crystals, one might receive assistance in working with the Akashic Records.
Today we’ve learned that
- a Cathedral or Lightbrary gives us hints in its two names: Cathedral, for its looks and Lightbrary for its function.
- a Cathedral or Lightbrary crystal contains the energy configuration to assist one to access the Akashic Records.
- they contain great wisdom.
- they are very high vibrational crystals, so can assist in increasing ones vibration.
- a Cathedral may be textbook perfect, partial or not right at all according to the textbook description and still have the energy of a Cathedral or Lightbrary.
I hope you have enjoyed this discussion about Cathedral or Lightbrary quartz crystals; what they are, how to determine if you have one, and how to work with them. Next time we’ll discuss quartz crystal Clusters.
Thanks a lot for replying!
Will do. He’s a fascinating little fella… He surprises me every day. The seller had labelled him as Brandberg quartz (or something similar), but he displays no sign of amethyst or any other mineral. I think he’s just very special and that I’m very lucky to have bought him on the spot, despite his expansiveness.
Again, thanks for replying

Thank you , Isabel, for reading the post on Crystal Cathedrals or Lightbraries. I enjoyed reading your blog! If you feel a calling to crystals, I also have a website with crystals for adoption at http://www.arkansascrystalworks.com. many blessings! Genn 🙂
Hi,
This may be hard to believe, but after extensive research, I have to conlude that one of my crystal is a Lemurian Double-Terminated Cathedral Record-Keeper quartz.
He is double terminated, has the lemurian “bar codes”, has the record-keeper triangles on both points and the bigger point has two small sisters. It also has a ” door” on one side just above the cloud inside the quartz, as if it was the door to a floor.
How should I use it? What would be his “powers”? Would they just be lemurian+double-terminated+record-keeper+cathedral quartz or some kind of one big blend? I wish I could send a picture…

Hello Wingedheart~ Thanks so much for your comment! Your crystal sounds LOVELY and powerful. To answer simply, follow your intuition in how to work with and become close to your crystal. Often the crystal will be sending you prompts (for example, you may just feel the need to sit and hold it or to sleep with it under your pillow, etc) These seemingly random ‘ideas’ are often being placed in your consciousness by your crystal, so the best way to work with this crystal (or any crystal) is to do whatever you feel LED to do (regardless of what you may read somewhere or what others may tell you). And to answer your question about its ‘powers’, yes, it has the ‘power’ of each individual type (Lemurian, Double Term, Record Keeper etc etc) with the additional power that each lends to the other (meaning the gestalt, as in your hand; Each finger has a unique function, but put all together as a hand, it can do so much more with the added benefit of the thumb being able to work with the index finger, etc etc). So the benefits of a Lemurian, combined with the energy flow of a Double Terminated with the added ability to access special information through the Record Keeper all wound up in the shape of a Cathedral makes it very unique and the ‘power’ of each individual aspect builds on and adds to the individual aspect of the others. Layers on layers. It sounds like a beautiful and powerful crystal!! May you have a wonderful time getting to know (and working with) each other.
Having worked for nearly 20 years with the Cathedrals I really appreciated your clear and loving description of their identification and purpose. I spend time with them myself and they share their knowledge with others through workshops that we present together. I am currently expanding my business and know these beautiful crystals are to be an integral part of sharing the love we have to give. I enjoyed your blog and look forward to reading past ones as well. Blessings Carol
thanks so much for your input, Carol! I agree that the Cathedrals have a special wise, loving energy <3 Thanks for sharing <3
Your descriptions of what the different terms for crystal formations and how to identify them are just so FANTASTIC! You should write some sort of crystal formation for dummies book with all of these articles in one manual! I am still reading through all your blog articles and I feel as though I get a little piece of enlightenment from each article, therefore, the more I read the more I feel I have a clearer understanding of the spiritual aspects of each crystal formation <3 –Love, Merlina
Thanks, Merlina! I am so glad it’s helpful! That project is actually in the “works”! yay!
very informative, keep up the good work
